2008 ARK-LA-TEX Wing Modified Rules

SAFETY:

Rules as required by track: Seatbelts and shoulder harness must have a 2 year certification and be in good working condition as well as helmet, fire suit, and gloves. Drive shaft must be painted white and have a loop. A firewall must be between engine and driver as well as driver and fuel cell. A fire extinguisher must be mounted inside car. Battery must be secure and covered behind the driver except for a dry-cell battery.

Penalty: Warning-Must be corrected before next event

BRAKES:

Any type allowed, but must have at least two wheels and in good working condition.

Penalty: Warning - Must be corrected before next event.

CHASSIS:

•  Tubing frames of 2X4, 3X3, or the equivalent

•  Must run front straight axle 

•  Must be 75% of wheelbase

•  No round mainframe rails

•  Minimum wheelbase of 106" (EXCEPTION: Any 100" wheelbase car that it still owned by original owner.) Will be measured before a race.

•  No more than 4" chassis offset

Penalty: Warning - Must be corrected before next event

BODY:

·        ONLY Narrow, D.I.R.T. Southern/Northern wide bodies, fiberglass, or metal must cover roll cage.

·        Hood scoop must be fastened to the hood and completely enclose the carburetor and air filter.

·        + Or - 1" all dimensions

Narrow Body

·        Rear spoiler height not to extend above height of quarter panel, nor outside of the body.

Wide Body Material

·        Only aluminum or steel will be permitted for all inner and outer body panels.

·        The roof must be fiberglass or aluminum.

·        Hood, hood scoop, windshield cowl, right rear inside tire clearance cover and front spoiler may be constructed of either fiberglass or aluminum.

·        Only CLEAR lexan will be permitted for the rear spoiler and the rear wing windows. NO STICKERS OR WRITING WILL BE ALLOWED ON THEM.

Wide Body Roof

·        The roof must be centered from side to side on roll cage and also be centered on frame (No offset bodies). Leading edge of roof must be fastened in a stationary position a minimum of 33” and a maximum of 48” in front of rear axle centerline. The roof must be securely fastened at the back and on both ends.

·        Length of the roof: Maximum 60”, Minimum 48”.

·        Width of the roof: Maximum 52”, Minimum 48”.

·        Front lip may not be more than ½”. Side edges may be no longer than 1 1/8” break.

·        Overall height (top of highest point): minimum 52”, maximum 61”, measured from the ground. Maximum roof angle is 5 degrees. 

Wide Body Front Door Posts

·        Doorposts must be flat aluminum sheet metal or fiberglass. They must go in a straight direct line from the roof to the doors. From a side view they must be no wider than a 4” dimension. They may be bead rolled or have a lip for re-enforcement.

 Wide Body Rear Wing Windows

·        All rear wing panels and windows must resemble a current OEM body style.

·        The maximum base length may not exceed 61”. Left and right must be of the same style and dimension.

·        All window styles must be nominally 160 square inches (suggested 10” tall X 16” long), clear, smooth lexan with no bends or breaks.

·        No writing or decals permitted on the wing windows.

·        Rear view of the wing window must go in a straight line from top of quarter panel or bodyline to the roof, with a maximum gradual bow of 2” in the center of wing window.

Wide Body Width and Ground Clearance

·        Body width (measured anywhere along the body line, front or back): 68” maximum, 64” minimum.

·        Minimum chassis ground clearance 2 ½”.

·        A 2” max air deflector is permitted in front of radiator to facilitate cooling.

Wide Body Door Panels

·              All outside sheet metal, door panels, door extensions, air dams, front nose & hood fins must be the same shape, size, and angle on both sides of the car. Doors must match each other from side to side.

·              Front Door must remain a minimum of 20” behind the front axle centerline.

·              Front door height must be a maximum of 38” and a minimum of 30” from the ground measured at 60” from rear axle centerline.

·              Ground clearance on the bottom of the doors must be a minimum of 6” and a maximum of 12” from the ground.

·              All doors and rear quarter panels may have a maximum lip of 1 ½” rounded at 90 degrees and facing inward only, on the top and bottom.

·              At the top of the doors and rear quarter panels, a lip angled out at a maximum of 45 degree, protruding away from the door no more than ½” and no more than 1” in length before it bends inward for strength will be permitted.

Wide Body Rear Quarter Panels

·        Rear quarter panels must match each other. (Must be symmetrical)

·        Quarter panels must be a maximum of 47” and a minimum of 40” from the ground at the rear and continue in a straight line with top of door.

·        A fender flare, up to a maximum of 2” from the body may be used, but the overall body width must still be maintained at a 68” maximum.

·        Rear quarter panels can extend back to 48” maximum at top and may incline down to 44” maximum at bottom measured from center of rear axle to rear of car.

·        Ground clearance on rear quarter panels must be a minimum of 8” and a maximum of 16”.

Wide Body Rear Spoiler

·        The rear spoiler must be clear one-piece lexan with a maximum height of 5” from the rear deck and must not have any writing or stickers on it.

·        Gurney tabs permitted. Lexan may have a break (top only) for rigidity, maximum 1”.

·        Spoiler maximum height from ground is not to exceed 50”.

·        A maximum of four vertical supports may be used to fasten the spoiler to the rear deck.

Wide Body Rear Deck

·        Must be a maximum height of 47” and a minimum of 40” from the ground.

·        Rear deck lid must be fully enclosed from quarter panel to quarter panel.

·        Left and right rear trunk lids must be symmetrical in size and shape.

·        At the discretion of the Chief Tech Inspector, older cars with tall gas tanks may have a step in the deck to accommodate the tank.

Wide Body Hood, Nose, And Front Spoiler

·        The hood, nose, and front spoiler can be no wider than 36” and no narrower than 24”.

·        The nosepiece must end at the front of the shock towers.

·        The spoiler must be separate.

·        The front spoiler must not extend any more than 20” in front of the front axle centerline.

·        The front spoiler must be non-adjustable (no hinges or sliders)

·        The nosepiece shall start where hood ends and end at the shock towers.

·        Any part of hood may not exceed 10 degrees nor can sheet metal have an opening or extrusion between the hood and nose.

·        Front spoiler may have 2” maximum lip up or down on both sides following the contour of the spoiler, not exceeding the maximum width of 36”.

 Wide Body Hood Scoop

·        The hood must be fully enclosed.

·        10” maximum rise in hood scoop.

·        Both style scoops may be made of fiberglass.

ENGINE:

• Any GM, Ford, Chrysler or CID must be capable of starting under own power.

• Engine setback 44" from center of front axle to back of block, cars with engine setback more than 44" (see tires)

• Any camshaft and ignition  

• No aluminum blocks

• 23* Heads only

• No dry sump systems

Penalty: Loss of points

CARBURETION:

• One carburetor any type

• No injectors

Penalty: Loss of Points

TRANSMISSION:

• Any automotive type, Bert or Brinn is OK

• No in and out boxes - must have forward, neutral, and reverse

Penalty: Loss of points

REAR END:

Any type allowed

WHEELS:

Any type allowed

WEIGHT:

• Minimum weight of 2300 lbs with driver after race

• Any added weight must be securely mounted

Penalty: Loss of points

ROLL CAGE:

• Full roll cage required and covered by body

• Bars must be 1 1/2 OD tubing on main cage

Penalty: Will not be allowed to race

SUSPENSION:

No Cockpit adjustable shocks of any kind allowed

Penalty:

• 1st Offense - Loss of Points that night

• 2nd Offense - $500.00 Fine and loss of points that night (Fine must be paid before you can race again)

• 3rd Offense - Can Not race with the ALTWMA for remainder of season

TIRES:

Cars with engine setback more than 44" must run 92-11 or equivalent rear tires. Tires must be stamped from manufacturer 92-11 or equivalent. Smaller tires are acceptable.

Penalty: Loss of points

FUEL:

• Gasoline or methanol

• Nitro and other type additives not allowed

Penalty: Loss of points

BUMPERS:

• All bumpers and kick rails must have no protruding sharp edges and must not extend past outside of tires and securely mounted to car.

• Rear bumper must not exceed past outside of rear tires.

Penalty: Warning - Must be corrected before next event

FUEL TANK:

• Fuel tank must be securely mounted at rear of car

• Approved fuel cell mandatory

• No electric fuel pumps

Penalty: Will not be allowed to race

WING:

• Maximum 5X6 body

• Sideboards 30" maximum left and right

• Maximum height above roof at front mounts 36"

• No Nose Wings  

• + Or - 1" all dimensions

Penalty: Must correct before next event

MUFFLERS:

• Mandatory  (Any type allowed)   

PROTESTING:

• Any car or violation is subject to protest

• Protest must be made in tech area within 15 minutes of the completion of feature race and must be made to any elected officer.

NOTE: UNLESS SPECIFICALLY STATED ALL RULES PERTAIN TO NARROW BODY AND WIDE BODY CARS.

SPORTSMANSHIP:

• Absolutely no fighting-disciplinary action will be taken

• Any driver disqualified for obvious rough driving or for unsportsmanlike conduct will not receive points for that event and could face other disciplinary action.

•  Drivers, car owners, and pit crewmembers are expected to be professional and if there is a problem it must be taken to the board members and not to track officials or track owners. If this happens a $100 fine will be implemented and must be paid before the next race.

• Any call made by an officer is not subject to protest.

STARTS AND RESTARTS:

• Original start will be double file, flagman will start race coming off turn four. After third attempt at start cars will start the race single file.

• Yellow Flag restarts will be diamond restarts. All cars must get in a single line as soon as possible to facilitate track officials in re-alignment.

• Red flag: ALL CARS STOP IMMEDIATELY in a safe manner. (THE REMAINDER OF THIS RULE MAY NOT APPLY TO ALL TRACKS) NOTE : NEED TO ATTEND ALTWM DRIVERS MEETING OR ASK ROLAND IF IN DOUBT. Remain stopped until imminent danger is over, if you choose to exit the track you must do so in a safe manner and avoid the problem area on the track. NO RACING THRU THE INFIELD, if you go off      the track under a red light YOU MUST GO TO THE BACK.  NO EXCEPTIONS or you will be black-flagged.

• Anyone getting out of his or her car on the track (except for emergency reasons) will be disqualified.

• If you are stopped when the yellow flag is thrown for any reason you will go to the back, even on the original start. NO EXCEPTIONS

It is understood that these rules were discussed and approved by a majority at our meeting at Doyline Community Center on 11-10-2007. The rules will not be changed without a drivers meeting.

                                         Points Regulations

To receive points and be eligible for year-end awards you must be a member of the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modified Association. The points will go to the driver. If you elect not to become a member of the Ark-La-Tex Wing Modified Association, each car will pay a $25 entry fee for each race night

that is participated in. The fee must be paid prior to the event. If an owner pays $25 four (4) times, the car is still not eligible for points until joining the association. All money will go to point’s fund and year-end banquet. All cars will receive twenty-five (25) "show up" points. (1) Passing point will be given for each car passed, based on your original starting position. Five (5) points will be awarded for non-qualifiers starting in a consolation races. No money will be awarded in a consolation race.
